Russell, who had a spectacular journey with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Indian Premier League 2019, could not recreate his magic while playing for West Indies in ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. Russell played four games for West Indies and could only bag four wickets. As he faced issues with his knee injury, he had to end his journey in the ongoing global cricket tournament.

26-year-old Ambris, who is called in the team to replace Russell, will be joining the Caribbean squad ahead of their match against India on June 27, 2019. West Indies had a bit of bad luck in their previous match against New Zealand, which they lost by just five runs after Carlos Braithwaite almost pulled up a victory for his team with 101 runs off 82 balls. While needing just six runs off seven balls, Braithwaite missed while going for a six and was dismissed by an awesome catch by Trent Boult. West Indies currently holds the eighth position on the points table with four losses from six matches and just one victory. One match against South Africa was abandoned due to rain.
