Virat Kohli led-team India took time out of their cramped schedule to wish their countrymen a happy Independence Day. Kohli termed the special day as "the most iconic day in the history of our country,” while Kedar Jadhav wished the fans in his native Marathi language. Kuldeep Yadav also wished his Indian fans. The video also had India vice-captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Ravi Shastri wishing the fans followed by Yuzvendra Chahal and Yadav. Meanwhile, India leads the three-match ODI series 1-0 having beaten the West Indies by 59 (DLS) runs in a rain-affected game. Rain threatened to sweep over another match after the first game was forced to be abandoned due to irregular rain and poor pitch conditions. Only 13 overs of play was possible in the opening game with West Indies stranded on 54/1 when rain spoiled the match.

Kohli then powered India to a victory in the second game with his 42nd ODI century. His score of 120, that consisted of 14 fours and a six, helped India clinch the game. The 30-year-old cricketer was also involved in a century-run partnership with Shreyas Iyer (71), who was playing his first international game for India in over 18 months. Kohli-Iyer stand helped India post 279 runs on board.

In reply, West Indies were bowled out for 210 runs with Bhuvneshwar running through the Caribbean middle-order. He finished with A four-wicket haul in the game his fourth 4-wicket haul in ODIs and first against West Indies. Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Shami also chipped in with two wickets each. India had earlier clean-swept the three-match T20I series to register their first 3-0 T20I series victory in the Caribbean.
