India dished out an impressive performance against Australia to register their second consecutive win in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 (CWC 2019). Chasing a mammoth target of 353, Australia were bowled out for 316 in 50 overs. Australia never looked in command of their chase and left losing wickets at regular intervals especially after Steve Smith and Usman Khawaja stand for the third wicket. Though Warner and Smith added 72 runs for the second wicket but runs for Australia came at a slow pace. Warner registered his 19th ODI fifty and took 77 balls to reach the milestone. After his dismissal, Smith and Khawaja took Australia forward but the asking rate kept climbing.

India picked wickets towards the end as Khawaja, Smith, Marcus Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell fell in space of four overs. For India, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah picked three wickets each. Yuzvendra Chahal accounted for two important wickets of Warner and Maxwell. Earlier, Shikhar Dhawan dominated the proceedings with the bat as he slammed his career’s 17th ODI century.

Apart from Dhawan, Rohit Sharma scored 57 and Virat Kohli scored 82. Hardik Pandya played a cameo of 48 runs off 27 balls. India now face New Zealand next on June 13 at the Trent Bridge.
