IND 339/6 at Stumps | India vs Bangladesh Highlights of 1st Test 2024 Day 1: Ravi Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja Help Hosts Recover After Hasan Mahmud’s Four-Wicket Haul

After winning the toss, Bangladesh took advantage of the conditions as Hasan Mahmud took early wickets putting pressure on India. But half-century from Yashswi Jaiswal and steady batting from Rishabh Pant helped India negate the 'uncertainty'. Later Ravindra Jadeja and Ravi Ashwin formed unbeaten 195 runs partnership to give India an edge. Ashwin completed his sixth century while Hasan Mahmud took four wickets on Day 1. 

After a disastrous start to the day, the home side managed to score 300+ runs losing six wickets. Ravi Ashwin scored a brilliant century while Ravindra Jadeja played an important knock of 86 runs. As for the Bangladesh, Hasan Mahmud was pick of the bowlers with four wickets. 

HUNDRED for Ravi Ashwin! What a knock it has been from such a special player! He has lit up Chepauk with this magnificent knock and it has put India on top here after Bangladesh's strong start. Ashwin and Jadeja have turned this game around in India's favour and this has truly been a special performance. 

India now have in excess of 300 runs and it has only made things tougher for Bangladesh. The visitors have looked toothless in the third session and it has all been the Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja show so far. 

Indian batsmen Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja have put up a stand of 150 runs so far and they look forward to stretching their partnership further and helping them achieve a big score. 

FIFTY for Ravindra Jadeja as well! A solid performance from a solid all-rounder and India have moved ahead of Bangladesh in this match, riding on his and Ravichandran Ashwin's bowling. Both these players have been superb and it remains to be seen how India end the day's play. 

The partnership between Ravi Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja has surpassed 100 runs and this stand has brought back India into this contest big time. Both players have played some exquisite shots and runs are flowing freely now. Bangladesh now are under pressure as India look to end the day on a high. 

FIFTY for Ravichandran Ashwin! What a knock it has been and the Chennai crowd are applauding for the local man who has shown why he is an absolute giant in Indian cricket. He came in to bat at a difficult time with wickets falling and has put up a good partnership with Ravindra Jadeja. India would be very happy with how the innings has progressed with Ashwin and Jadeja's partnership. 

Ravi Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, two of India's most experienced players are out in the middle and they will look to take the total to a safe place with Bangladesh bowlers putting their team on top. We are in the last session of the day and India would not want to lose any more wickets. Ashwin in particular has been aggressive and it has injected some life into this Indian batting innings. 

That would be tea on Day 1! Bangladesh continue to have the upper hand in this contest as they won another session, taking three wickets. Hasan Mahmud got a fourth when he dismissed Rishabh Pant and later on Nahid Rana sent Yashasvi Jaiswal back to the pavilion after the latter scored a half-century. KL Rahul was then undone by a brilliant catch from Zakir Hasan. India would need Ravi Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja to bat long, atleast towards close of play today to get a total of some substance.
