Team Form and Road to the Final
Both India and Pakistan have navigated challenging paths to reach this gold medal encounter. India, captained by Shreyas Iyer, secured their spot in the final after a commanding 124-run victory over Sri Lanka in the semi-finals. Their quarter-final clash against Afghanistan was abandoned due to rain, with India progressing by virtue of being the higher-seeded team.
Pakistan, led by Sahibzada Farhan, advanced to the final by defeating Bangladesh by six wickets in a rain-affected semi-final. Similar to India, Pakistan also progressed from their rain-abandoned quarter-final tie as the higher-ranked side after their match against Hong Kong China was washed out. India enters the match as the defending men's cricket champions from the 2023 edition of the Asian Games, having won gold in Hangzhou after the final was washed out and they were declared winners by virtue of higher ranking. What Happens if Rain Interrupts?
Given that rain has already affected several matches in the tournament, the organizing committee has clarified the rules for the final. Unlike the previous edition in Hangzhou, where India were awarded gold after the final against Afghanistan was abandoned due to rain, the teams will not be separated by their rankings. There is no reserve day scheduled for the Men's Asian Games cricket final. If the match is completely washed out, both India and Pakistan will be awarded gold medals, with no silver medallist in the competition.
This historic gold medal match promises to be a captivating contest as India and Pakistan vie for continental supremacy in cricket at the Asian Games 2026.
