A grand wedding in picturesque Tuscany villa followed by two lavish receptions on the home soil is not enough to make Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma’s valid. Yes, the power couple reportedly has to remarry to make their marriage legal if the reports are to be believed. So, what went wrong the first time, which is forcing the lovely pair to have a marriage ceremony all over again? Virat and Anushka who had a close-knit wedding in Italy do not hold a legal marriage certificate as per the Indian laws. The media reports further claim Virushka to have a court marriage in their home country.

As per a leading Hindi daily, Dainik Bhaskar, Hemant Kumar, a lawyer from the Punjab-Haryana High Court had filed an RTI on December 13, 2017, two days after Virat and Anushka’s wedding date. In his plea, Kumar spoke to the media stating the couple did not register their marriage as per Indian laws. The Indian Embassy in Rome, Italy’s capital, responded to the RTI filed by Kumar that they had not received any information regarding the wedding. In their efforts to keep their wedding a close-knit affair, the couple had forgotten to inform the embassy.

So, what exactly are the standard guidelines of an Indian marrying outside the country? As per the Indian constitution, if a person marries outside the country, then the marriage is compulsorily supposed to be registered under the Foreign Marriage Act, 1969. If the pair fails to adhere to it, their marriage will remain invalid. They must remarry again in Court, following the standard procedures of the Indian law.
