The Sri Lankan team has suffered a jolt, a week before their 2018 Asia Cup campaign began, in the form of Dinesh Chandimal. The wicket-keeper batsman was ruled out of Asia Cup 2018, on Monday, after he failed to recover from a prior finger injury. The Sri Lankan Cricket has announced Niroshan Dickwella as his replacement.

Sri Lanka’s Test team captain had sustained an injury on his finger during their domestic T20 competition, i.e. SLC T20 League 2018.  Dinesh Chandimal would not be able to take part in the multi-nation tournament as he could not heal from the injury he had sustained.

The SLC has announced a like-for-like replacement in the form of Niroshan Dickwella. The dynamic left-handed batsman would be looking forward to adding more firepower to Sri Lanka’s grim batting line-up.

Updated Sri Lanka Squad: Angelo Mathews (c), Kusal Perera, Kusal Mendis, Upul Tharanga, Danushka Gunathilaka, Thisara Perera, Dasun Shanaka, Dhanajaya de Silva, Akila Dananjaya, Dilruwan Perera, Amila Aponso, Kasun Rajitha, Suranga Lakmal, Dushmantha Chameera, Lasith Malinga, and Niroshan Dickwella.

Dinesh Chandimal has been a main-stay in Sri Lankan team for quite a long time now. His absence would surely dent Sri Lanka’s chances in their quest of Asia Cup 2018 trophy. It will be interesting to see if Dickwella can fill the big shoes of Chandimal in the multi-nation tournament.

Sri Lanka will begin their Asia Cup 2018 campaign against Bangladesh in the tournament opener on September 15. Stay tuned with us for all the latest updates about Asia Cup 2018!
