The 24-year-old Pakistan cricketer idolises Virat Kohli but he was criticised by former Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Akhtar after Pakistan's humiliating loss to India in ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. Akhtar, however, later appreciated Azam's batting after his century in ICC World Cup 2019 Pakistan vs New Zealand match. "Match winning inning from Babar Azam. A brilliant display of talent by Haris Sohail. What a class act he is turning out to be. Shaheen Afridi bowled with pace & aggression. Pakistan Zindabad. One step closer to the dream", the Rawalpindi Express had tweeted.

Azam played an unbeaten knock of 101 runs to clinch victory for Pakistan against New Zealand. The young cricketer has scored 333 runs in ongoing ICC World Cup 2019 so far, with two half-centuries and 1 century in six matches he played for his team. Talking about Virat, the Indian skipper has scored four half-centuries in ongoing Cricket World Cup tournament so far.
