Woorkeri Venkat Raman was selected to be the Head Coach of the Indian’s Women Cricket team, on Thursday. WV Raman’s selection came ahead of former Indian Coach, Gary Kirsten. Speculations were rife that Gary Kirsten could be the one who will be appointed for the post. However, there were reports which suggested that the former Indian coach was reluctant to give up his plum job at Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL). BCCI Invites Applications for New Women's Team Coach; No Extension For Ramesh Pawar.

It was under the guidance of Gary Kirsten that saw India lift the ICC World Cup trophy after 28 years, in 2011. Kirsten was the coach of India’s men team from 2008 to 2011. He also coached the South African national team from 2011 to 2013.

The BCCI had put out an invite for the candidatures willing to apply for the top job with the Indian Women’s cricket team. The following development came after Ramesh Powar was sacked from his post after his fall out with senior player Mithali Raj. Some candidates were interviewed in person, while some on Skype and few over the phone. The candidates’ list included Venkatesh Prasad, Manoj Prabhakar, Trent Johnston, Dimitri Mascarenhas, Brad Hogg and Kalpana Venkatachar among others.
