The Men’s Hockey World Cup 2018 event will commence from November 28, 2018, at the Kalinga Stadium in Odisha. The mega-event will witness the participation of 16 teams and the opening ceremony of the World Cup will take place tomorrow at the Kalinga Stadium. The opening ceremony will see performances from Bollywood celebrities like Shah Rukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit and AR Rahman. The Chief Minister of Odisha Naveen Patnaik declared a holiday on the eve of the opening ceremony. “CM @Naveen_Odisha declared a holiday on 27 November for all educational institutions in #Bhubaneswar for the inaugural event of #HockeyWorldCup2018. Government offices and educational institutes across the state will function till 1:30 PM on 27 November,” read a tweet from the CMO’s official handle. “CM @Naveen_Odisha has also announced that all education institutes and government offices in Cuttack will function till 1.30 PM on 28 November. Oscar awardee music maestro AR Rahman will perform in #SilverCity as part of #HWC2018 celebrations,” read another tweet.

India is placed in Pool C along with Belgium, Canada and South Africa. India will play their first match against South Africa at 7.00 PM on November 28, 2018. Olive Ridley Sea Turtle is the official mascot of the 2018 Men’s Hockey World Cup.
