Chris and Tim Vanderhook revealed their intentions in Tommy Avallone's new documentary, Myspace, signalling a potential new chapter for the internet pioneer.
"We still own Myspace," Tim told the documentary, according to People. "We are stewards of the Myspace brand at this point, and we are going to relaunch Myspace. We’re just waiting for the right time to do it. And if that one doesn’t work, we’ll do it again," he added. Previous Revamp Efforts and Early Struggles
Myspace never truly vanished from the internet, though numerous owners have attempted to restore its former glory over the years. When the Vanderhook brothers purchased the platform in 2011, they spent two years developing a complete, music-centric redesign. However, the update failed to resonate with users. "We built an entirely new Myspace," Chris explained in the film. Tim added, "We really tried to modernise it, but it was a different company at that point. It wasn’t the same Myspace." By the time the brothers acquired the platform, it had already cycled through four different sets of management and CEOs. According to Chris, things began unravelling the moment the deal closed, compounded by advertisers rapidly cancelling contracts in favour of competitors like Facebook. As Tim described it, "It became just an onslaught of losses."
A Cultural Phenomenon of the Aughts
For a generation coming of age in the 2000s, Myspace was much more than a website - it was a cultural anchor. Users spent hours curating their public Top 8 friends lists, customising profile layouts, and selecting a profile song to greet visitors. Everyone on the platform automatically started as a friend of co-founder Tom Anderson during an era when the web was still finding its modern identity. The platform also played a pivotal role in launching major music careers.
