Samsung is expanding the utility of its built-in camera tools by introducing a new feature in the One UI 9 update that allows users to transform Motion Photos into animated home and lock screen wallpapers. Traditionally used to isolate and extract a single ideal frame from a short video clip captured during shooting, the function now lets owners display the moving sequence directly on their device backgrounds.

The software upgrade provides a streamlined setup workflow directly through the Samsung Gallery app. When selecting an eligible moving image, users can preview the animation in real-time and choose to apply it to the home screen, the lock screen, or both simultaneously. Meta Denies Allegations That Instagram and Facebook Are Designed to Addict Teens.

As per a report by SamMobile, the wallpaper configuration screen includes a dedicated toggle button enabling users to easily switch the motion animation on or off depending on their preference. This ensures that individuals who appreciate the framing of a specific shot can retain it as either a dynamic moving backdrop or a standard static image without needing to switch source files.

The capability builds upon Samsung's existing camera architecture, which automatically records a brief three-second segment of action surrounding the shutter release. By translating these clips into live backgrounds, the interface brings an added layer of personalisation to everyday device navigation.

Current Availability Across Samsung Galaxy Models

The Motion Photo wallpaper feature is currently available on devices running the stable version of One UI 9 out of the box, specifically covering the recently launched Galaxy Z Flip 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8, and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra lineup. OpenAI Pauses Advanced Model Training Amid AI Safety Scares.

However, users testing ongoing pre-release software, such as the One UI 9 Beta build on the Galaxy S26 Ultra, have noted that the option is not yet visible. Industry observers anticipate that Samsung will likely expand the feature to traditional flagship slab phones with the wider rollout of the stable software update later in the year.
