Astronauts aboard Artemis II have shared breathtaking images of Earth as they travel closer to the Moon, marking a historic moment in modern space exploration. Released by NASA, the photos were taken from inside the Orion spacecraft and showcase the planet’s beauty from deep space.
The four-member crew, including commander Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen, are currently on a flyby mission around the Moon. One striking image shows a curved section of Earth through the capsule window, while another captures the entire globe, covered in swirling white clouds with a glowing green aurora. NASA officials confirmed that the mission is progressing smoothly. Lakiesha Hawkins, an exploration systems leader, highlighted the emotional impact of the images, noting that nearly all of humanity is represented in that single frame of Earth.
The astronauts described the experience as unforgettable. Wiseman called the sight of Earth from space “the most spectacular moment,” while Hansen shared his excitement about floating in zero gravity, comparing the feeling to being a child again. The crew also engaged in a live Q&A session, expressing awe at the extraordinary views. This mission marks the first time humans have traveled toward the Moon since Apollo 17 in 1972. Unlike landing missions, Artemis II will loop around the Moon and return to Earth, testing systems for future exploration.
As part of NASA’s broader Artemis program, the mission aims to pave the way for a sustained human presence on the Moon, including plans for a permanent base that could support future deep space missions.
