A woman posing as an online escort and her male accomplice pleaded guilty to manslaughter on Wednesday, June 24, at Oxford Crown Court in connection with the poisoning deaths of two men. The Spiking and Robbery Scheme
According to details released by law enforcement officials, Mihai and Dumitru operated a coordinated operation between August 2024 and July 2025. The pair typically secured financial deposits from their victims online before Mihai arranged to meet them at their private residences. Once inside, Mihai would covertly lace the victims' beverages with Gamma-butyrolactone (GBL), a powerful chemical substance that rapidly converts into Gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB) once metabolised by the human body. The primary intent of administering the drug was to render the victims unconscious, allowing the co-accused to steal their personal property and financial assets.
Uncovering the Fatalities
The investigation intensified after 37-year-old Gary Mouat was found dead at his home in Banbury on July 13, 2025. Forensic analysis later confirmed that lethal levels of GBL had been added to his alcoholic drink. Following Mouat's death, the Thames Valley Police issued a national law enforcement bulletin requesting other agencies to review similar unexplained fatalities. This prompt led the Gloucestershire Constabulary to re-examine the death of 80-year-old Malcolm King on August 21, 2024. King's passing had initially been attributed by medical examiners to a pre-existing health condition. However, subsequent toxicological reviews tied his death directly to the same poisoning pattern.
Additional Victims and Legal Outcomes
As detectives expanded their timeline, the Thames Valley Police identified two additional poisoning victims residing across the south of England. Both individuals survived the interactions and provided crucial testimony regarding the operational methods used by the suspects.
