Deion Garcia Case: Former Dental Assistant S*xually Abuses Minor Patients in Arizona, Gets 40 Years in Prison
Deion Garcia, a former Arizona dental assistant, has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for s*xually abusing minor patients at a Chandler dental office. Investigators discovered he exploited vulnerable children, including those under anaesthesia, and took illicit photos. A colleague was also indicted for failing to report previous abuse incidents.
A former dental assistant was sentenced to 40 years in prison on Friday, July 17, following his guilty plea to multiple felony charges involving the s*xual abuse of several minor patients. Deion Garcia, 29, will also serve a term of lifetime supervised probation as part of the sentence handed down by the court, according to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office. The sentencing follows a series of investigations into Garcia’s conduct while employed at Kidiatric Dental & Orthodontics in Chandler, Arizona.
Garcia pleaded guilty to one count of attempted molestation of a child, one count of s*xual conduct with a minor, and two counts of attempted s*xual exploitation of a minor - all of which were classified as dangerous crimes against children. Investigation into Abuse Allegations
The case against Garcia began in May 2024, when the parent of a 6-year-old girl reported that he had “inappropriately touched the victim” and “taken inappropriate photos of her” during an X-ray examination. Following this report to the Chandler Police Department, investigators identified a pattern of abuse. Law enforcement linked the 2024 incident to a separate case from September 2022 involving another 6-year-old patient who was allegedly abused during a similar procedure. Furthermore, a search of Garcia’s electronic devices revealed “multiple inappropriate images of a 4-year-old victim,” who officials say was under anaesthesia at the time of the abuse.
Legal Fallout and Reporting Violations
The investigation also drew scrutiny toward the management of the dental practice. In May, Dr Walter Villanueva, an employee at Kidiatric Dental, was indicted on a felony count for failing to report the September 2022 abuse incident. According to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, Villanueva met with the mother of the 2022 victim to discuss the incident but failed to alert law enforcement, a violation of Arizona’s Mandatory Reporting law. A Breach of Trust
Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell emphasised the severity of the betrayal in her statement following the sentencing. "Garcia was trusted with the care of vulnerable children during routine dental procedures, and he exploited that trust for his own s*xual gratification," Mitchell said. "I commend the work of the Chandler Police Department and s*x crimes prosecutor Anshika Mehrotra in securing justice for these victims," she added. "This 40-year sentence reflects the seriousness of his crimes," Mitchell said.
