Initially, Norman offered responding officers conflicting accounts regarding the circumstances leading to the infant's distress. Confronted with the autopsy findings, Norman admitted to investigators that the infant had experienced multiple falls earlier that day, culminating in an aggressive physical action by her, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by WFLA News. Norman stated that she first accidentally dropped the child onto the floor around 9:00 AM while reaching for a remote control, causing him to strike his head. Rather than seeking medical attention, she researched injury symptoms on her phone and decided to monitor him. A short time later, the infant fell face-first onto the floor after Norman's one-year-old child climbed into the rocking bassinet, causing it to tip over. According to court papers, the situation escalated around 1:00 PM when a frustrated Norman intentionally "tossed" or "threw" Jeremiah into a playpen from a standing position several feet away. Despite the infant's deteriorating condition, Norman did not contact emergency services. As the child's condition worsened, Norman shifted her online activity, browsing TikTok videos until roughly 4:20 PM and subsequently logging onto pornographic websites over 30 times. “I think the child was probably deceased hours before she called us,” Taylor said. “I think she was trying to work through her mind, ‘how do I minimize this?’ is my assumption," the police chief said.
During questioning, Norman attributed her shifting statements to underlying mental health challenges, including a history of depression, suicidal ideation, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and borderline personality disorder, according to the affidavit.
