Kash Patel Under Fire: FBI Director Allegedly Used Bureau Jet To Fly Girlfriend Alexis Wilkins to George Strait Concert

FBI Director Kash Patel is facing mounting scrutiny over his use of bureau resources, with a series of reports raising questions about whether official trips have increasingly blurred the line between government duty and personal leisure.
The latest controversy centres on a New York Times report alleging that the 46-year-old FBI Director flew his 27-year-old girlfriend, Alexis Wilkins, on the FBI's Gulfstream V jet from Washington to Philadelphia on May 10, 2025, to attend a country music concert featuring George Strait and Chris Stapleton. According to the report, the couple watched the performance from a private suite costing between USD 35,000 and USD 50,000, while FBI flight crew and security personnel reportedly remained on standby until after 11 pm, accruing overtime pay in the process. Patel declined to respond to the report when contacted through an FBI spokesperson. The bureau, however, stated that Wilkins had been "an invited guest" of the performers. The concert trip is just one in a string of travel episodes drawing public attention. Days earlier, Patel faced backlash over a so-called "VIP snorkel" excursion near the USS Arizona memorial at Pearl Harbor - a site honouring US service members killed during the 1941 attack. FBI spokesman Ben Williamson pushed back firmly against media characterisations of the Hawaii visit, writing on X: "The AP is attempting to spin an invitation from the Commanding General of Indo Pacom to a military base as a party or vacation, which is so stupid." Williamson further noted that "the DoW routinely does these engagements with inter-agency partners" and that Patel had offered similar events to visiting partners during his time as Chief of Staff at the Pentagon during Trump's first term. The bureau maintained that Patel's Hawaii trip in July 2025 was official, focused on meetings with the Honolulu Field Office and discussions on "crime trends and threats to the homeland," including "violent crime initiatives and casework." An FBI spokesperson described the Arizona memorial visit as a "historical tour to honor heroes who died on the USS Arizona - not a party."
Not everyone shares that view. Stacey Young, founder of Justice Connection, a support group for Department of Justice personnel fired under the second Trump administration, told the Associated Press that the trip "fits a pattern of Director Patel getting tangled up in unseemly distractions, this time at a site commemorating the second-deadliest attack in US history, instead of staying laser-focused on keeping Americans safe."
Patel also drew attention during the Winter Olympics in Milan, where video surfaced of him celebrating with the US men's hockey team and drinking beer. He maintained the visit was connected to an ongoing cybercrime investigation coordinated with Italian authorities.
Throughout the controversy, Patel has remained defiant. At a recent DOJ press conference, he said: "I've taken half as many days off as those before me. I've taken a third less vacation than those before me." He added: "I'm the first one in; I'm the last one out." He has also criticised media coverage as inaccurate and politically motivated, while pointing to enforcement achievements under his leadership.
As scrutiny intensifies, the central question remains whether the FBI Director's travel reflects genuine official engagement or a pattern of using government resources to blend duty with personal convenience - a question that shows no signs of fading from public debate.
