Bengaluru, February 15: Saketh Sreenivasaiah, a 22 year old Indian postgraduate student in the United States, has been found dead days after he was reported missing in Berkeley, California. The confirmation came from the Consulate General of India in San Francisco on February 15.
In a statement posted on X, the Consulate said local police had confirmed the recovery of Saketh’s body. It expressed “heartfelt condolences” to his family and assured full support, including coordination with authorities and arrangements to repatriate his mortal remains to India. Saketh was pursuing a Master of Science in Product Development at the University of California, Berkeley. Originally from Karnataka, he was an alumnus of Indian Institute of Technology Madras and was enrolled in the Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering department at UC Berkeley. According to reports, he was last seen near Lake Anza in the 1700 block of Dwight Way on February 12. Authorities described him as 6 feet 1 inch tall, weighing about 160 pounds, with short black hair and brown eyes. He had been considered at risk after his disappearance.
The circumstances surrounding his death have not yet been disclosed. The Consulate said its officers remain in direct contact with Saketh’s family and will assist them with all required formalities during this difficult time.
