A possible draft agreement between the United States and Iran could be announced within hours, according to reports citing Al Arabiya sources. The proposed deal reportedly includes an immediate ceasefire, guarantees for freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, and gradual lifting of US sanctions in exchange for Iran’s compliance. Pakistan has reportedly played a mediation role in the talks.
A possible draft agreement between the United States and Iran could be announced within hours, according to Al Arabiya sources, amid signs of progress in negotiations aimed at ending months of escalating tensions between the two countries.
The proposed agreement reportedly includes an immediate and unconditional ceasefire across all fronts, commitments to avoid targeting civilian and military infrastructure, and guarantees for freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and surrounding waterways. The deal is also expected to include a phased lifting of US sanctions in exchange for Iran complying with the agreement’s terms. Key Terms of the Proposed Agreement
According to sources cited by Al Arabiya, the draft deal contains several major provisions intended to reduce military tensions and restore diplomatic engagement.
The reported terms include:
- Immediate, comprehensive, unconditional ceasefire on all fronts, including land, sea and air
- Mutual commitment not to target military, civilian or economic infrastructure
- Ending all military operations and halting the media war
- Commitments to respect sovereignty, territorial integrity and non-interference in internal affairs
- Guarantees for freedom of navigation in the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf of Oman
- Formation of a joint mechanism to monitor implementation and resolve disputes
- Beginning negotiations on outstanding issues within seven days
- Gradual lifting of US sanctions in exchange for Iran’s commitment to the agreement
- Reaffirmation of compliance with international law and the UN Charter
Sources said the agreement would come into effect immediately once officially announced by both sides. Iran’s Draft Proposal for US Talks; Demands Ending War, Removing Sanctions, Lifting Naval Blockade.
Pakistan Playing Mediation Role
The reported breakthrough comes as Pakistan’s Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi holds talks with Iranian officials during his second visit to Tehran this week.
Pakistan has reportedly been engaged in shuttle diplomacy between Washington and Tehran in an effort to bridge differences and facilitate dialogue. Iranian state media said Islamabad’s efforts were aimed at helping secure a framework agreement to end the conflict. During an earlier visit this week, Naqvi reportedly shared the latest American proposal with Iranian officials.
Positive Signals From Negotiations
The latest developments follow comments from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who said on Thursday that there had been “some good signs” in the negotiations. “There’s some good signs,” Rubio said. “I don’t want to be overly optimistic ... So, let’s see what happens over the next few days.”
A senior Iranian source also told Reuters that the latest American proposal had narrowed certain gaps between the two sides, although uranium enrichment and the status of the Strait of Hormuz remained among the key unresolved issues.
Rubio also indicated that no agreement would be possible if Tehran imposed a tolling system in the strategic waterway, which had effectively been closed to most shipping after the conflict began on February 28.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the most sensitive issues in the negotiations due to its significance for global oil shipments and international trade routes. Any long-term agreement guaranteeing freedom of navigation in the region would likely be viewed as a major step toward easing tensions in the Gulf and stabilising global energy markets.
Neither Washington nor Tehran has officially confirmed the finalisation of the reported draft agreement so far.
