A 2-year-old boy survived a cocaine overdose while on vacation at the Jersey Shore, according to authorities who have since charged the man responsible for looking after him at the time. Alexander T. Moles, 39, was supposed to be watching the toddler and his siblings on Monday morning while their mother showered before checking out of an Airbnb in Wildwood, New Jersey, according to court documents obtained by New Jersey 101.5. Moles later drove the child to the hospital in North Wildwood after the mother finished showering and grew alarmed that her son appeared sleepy and was having difficulty breathing.
What Happened At The Wildwood Airbnb
One of the children called 911, and Moles reportedly told police at the time that he believed the toddler had taken "pain killers." The boy was saved at the hospital after being administered a Naloxone nasal spray, commonly known as Narcan, which is used to reverse overdoses, according to NJ.com. Blood tests conducted at Cooper University Hospital Cape Regional later confirmed the toddler had tested positive for cocaine. What Police Found During The Search
Following a judge-ordered search of Moles' Airbnb, officers recovered a pill, tinfoil packets labelled "tapentadol hydrochloride," a clear plastic bag containing a white powdery substance, and several short plastic straws, according to an affidavit. Tapentadol hydrochloride is a prescription medication used to treat chronic or nerve pain.
Authorities said Moles had been staying at the property along with a woman and her multiple children, including the victim, though the exact nature of the relationship between them was not disclosed.
