On January 14, Bishop Franco Mulakkal was acquitted by a Kerala court. The former priest was accused of raping a nun multiple times over a period of two years. 57-year-old Mulakkal was the first Catholic bishop in India to go on trial for rape. In 2018, the nun had accused Franco Mulakkal of repeatedly raping her between 2014 and 2016.
