India celebrates its Constitution Day on November 26 to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India on the same date in 1949 by the Constituent Assembly of India. It came into effect on January 26, 1950, and this Constitution of India, written by BR Ambedkar, has been referred to as “first and foremost a social document” by American historian Granville Seward Austin. This day is thus observed every year to spread the thoughts and ideas of Dr BR Ambedkar and to make everyone understand the importance of the Constitution.
