Police in Nalasopara, near Mumbai, have taken two 17-year-old boys into custody in connection with the alleged gang-rape of a 14-year-old girl and the circulation of an explicit video recording of the assault online. According to authorities at the Tulinj Police Station, the victim, a resident of Nalasopara East, had initially befriended one of the accused on Instagram. On the afternoon of July 11, the boy requested a meeting under the pretext of discussing an urgent matter. Upon arrival, the minor was taken to a room in a local chawl, where a second 17-year-old boy was present. The two youths then allegedly assaulted her and filmed the crime on a mobile phone. Following the assault, the suspects threatened to kill the victim's brother if she disclosed the incident to anyone, forcing her to stay silent. However, the accused subsequently uploaded and shared the recording online. The crime was uncovered on August 15 when the victim’s maternal uncle came across the video on his phone and alerted the family. Upon being questioned, the minor recounted the ordeal. Police Inspector Amar Marathe confirmed that both juveniles have been detained. Charges have been filed under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for gang-rape and criminal intimidation, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and the Information Technology Act for distributing obscene material.
