On August 24, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi slammed the PM Modi-led government’sĀ National Monetisation Pipeline. Gandhi alleged that this decision would help "2-3 private players.ā€ He said that this privatisation list busts the Bharatiya Janata Party’s claim that 70 years of rule by the Congress had seen no development. Congress said that the Modi-led government is selling these assets just to cover up the mismanagement of the economy. Coming down hard on PM Narendra Modi, Gandhi said "only a few businesses will be left" as a result of it and employment opportunities would go down. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, on August 23, unveiledĀ the Rs 6 lakh crore monetisation plan. Former Finance Minister, P Chidambaram called it aĀ ā€œgrand bargain sale, and a grand closing-down sale.ā€Ā Congress Leader Shashi Tharoor tweeted, ā€œAt least now, BJP should acknowledge that national assets were created since independence by successiveĀ Congress governments.ā€
