Rumours regarding the death of former Lok Sabha SpeakerĀ Sumitra MahajanĀ went viral late on April 22. However, the rumours were quickly refuted by her staff.Ā Falling to the fake news, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor too had tweeted his condolences. The tweet has since been deleted. TharoorĀ retracted his statement as soon asĀ BJP general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya and others pointed out that it was false.Ā The senior Congress leader then apologised for falling for fake news & wished her a ālong lifeā.Ā Mahajan has been admitted toĀ Bombay HospitalĀ in Indore with mild fever.Ā Mahajan (78) was the Lok Sabha speaker from 2014 to 2019. She had earlier represented the Indore Lok Sabha constituency in Parliament for eight terms.
