The nation woke up to the tragic news of a major gas leak at LG Polymer chemical plant in Visakhapatnam. The leak which took place in the wee hours of May 7 around 3 am has claimed 11 lives. Over 800 people complaining of breathlessness and vomiting have been shifted to the hospital. Toxic styrene gas escaped from large tanks of an LG Polymers facility, shut for over 40 days due to the coronavirus lockdown. The factory was restarted past midnight allegedly without precautions. As India is fighting the novel coronavirus pandemic, the Visakhapatnam gas leak has left everyone shocked. Several Bollywood celebrities like Karan Johar, Kartik Aaryan, Hrithik Roshan, Ayushmann Khurrana, Rakul Preet Singh, Bhumi Pednekar, Lara Dutta, Arjun Kapoor and others have expressed grief. Many South stars also took to Twitter to express disbelief. Mahesh Babu, Chiranjeevi, Jr NTR, Ram Charan, Nani, Tamannaah Bhatia, SS Rajamouli and others have been tweeting. Leading sports stars, Sania Mirza, Virat Kohli, Saina Nehwal, Yuvraj Singh & others offered condolences.
