A second dog was captured after a man was mauled in a popular Brisbane park, leaving him fighting for his life. The 37-year-old was attacked by two dogs, believed to be pitbulls, at Seventh Brigade Park in Chermside about 6.15pm on Friday.

He suffered significant lacerations to his face and arms, before being taken to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a critical condition. The severe injuries prompted an immediate overnight emergency response involving council animal control officers and Queensland Police aerial surveillance teams across the surrounding northern suburbs.

Police Aerial Search and Discovery of Animals

It is understood he was running when the dogs attacked. Polair was called in to help locate the dogs on Friday night, with one captured and later euthanised.

The second dog was found at a property on Newman Rd, Wavell Heights, on Saturday morning. Council officers and police secured the animal without further incident, ending an extensive neighborhood search that began immediately after the mauling.

Eyewitness Accounts and Veterinary Sighting

Wavell Heights resident Monique Moore told the Courier Mail she had seen the first dog at a veterinary clinic, where she had taken her elderly dog to be put down.

“We were getting our elderly dog put to sleep and the authorities brought the dog there in the car park,” Ms Moore said.

Witnesses reported hearing a woman yelling a dog’s name in a nearby street, about the time of the attack, the Courier Mail reported. Authorities are continuing inquiries to verify the ownership details of both dogs and establish how they were roaming loose in the public reserve.

Parkrun Goes Ahead Under Precautionary Guidelines

Chermside’s weekly 5km parkrun still went ahead on Saturday morning, with runners asked not to bring dogs and to keep small children close.

Event organisers and local authorities implemented the safety measures to ensure participant safety while morning runners completed the circuit through Seventh Brigade Park.
