U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) launched a new wave of military strikes against Iran on Sunday evening, marking the ninth consecutive night of American aerial operations in the region. The operation, which commenced at 7:00 p.m. ET, is part of an ongoing campaign to secure international shipping lanes against regional threats.

According to a statement released by CENTCOM, the primary objective of the latest engagement is to degrade specific Iranian military assets. The U.S. military stated that these capabilities have been actively utilized to target commercial vessels and civilian mariners transiting the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global choke point for energy trade. Strait of Hormuz Crisis: Iran Claims 2 Oil Tankers Hit Naval Mines, US Dismisses Reports as Fabricated.

The targeted sites in this wave included military command centers, air defenses, coastal surveillance networks, and missile and drone launch facilities. U.S. officials stated the operations are intended to swiftly diminish Tehran's capacity to disrupt international waters.

Speaking to reporters upon his return to Washington, U.S. President Donald Trump addressed the escalating situation and confirmed the intensity of the latest wave of attacks. "We hit them very hard again tonight," President Trump said. "And we did that in honor of the, probably three, it's probably three great patriots," he added, dedicating the strikes to the U.S. service members killed in action in the region in recent days.

Trump further noted that U.S. forces had delivered a "very powerful blow" and emphasized that the broader mission aims to prevent Tehran from acquiring a nuclear weapon. Israel Warns of Full Force Response as Middle East Conflict Escalates.

CENTCOM Launches 9th Straight Night of Strikes on Iran

This latest escalation follows a week of intensifying military friction. The conflict has further intensified following recent regional drone and missile strikes that resulted in U.S. troop casualties, including two personnel killed in Jordan and a service member who died during a controlled ordnance detonation in northern Iraq.

In tandem with the ongoing airstrikes, CENTCOM confirmed that U.S. forces are actively enforcing a naval blockade. Over the weekend, the military redirected six commercial vessels and disabled another to ensure compliance and maintain freedom of navigation through the waterway.

Iranian state media reported that previous waves of strikes have impacted coastal infrastructure. Officials in Tehran have condemned the U.S. actions, calling the operations a severe violation of sovereignty and warning of potential regional retaliation.

CENTCOM officials emphasized that U.S. forces remain postured, vigilant, and prepared to continue operations under the direction of the Commander-in-Chief until the threat to civilian shipping is mitigated.
