Sunil Gavaskar Declines PM-Elect Imran Khan's Swearing-in Invite, Cites Work Commitment During India vs England Test Series

Pakistan’s PM-elect Imran Khan’s swearing-in ceremony’s guest list has seen a lot of drama and controversies since his party has won the General Elections. In a recent development, former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar, who was one of the invitees, has declined that he will not be able to join the ceremony, citing work commitments in England.

Speculations were doing the rounds that several former Indian cricketers along with were other prominent personalities also invited to Imran’s ceremony. However, putting all predictions to rest, when Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) party’s senior leader Faisal Javed Khan announced the guest-list on Twitter.

The senior leader in his Twitter post wrote, “Cricket legends from India and Kaptaan's old friends Kapil Dev, Sidhu and Sunil Gavaskar have been invited to attend Oath Taking Ceremony of Pakistan's PM Imran Khan,” tagging the three cricketers in his tweet.

The Little Master, who is currently in England will be busy due to a Test match between India and England, on August 18. Reports were stating that PTI had extended invitations to many cricket personalities, but Imran Khan had decided against it.

On the other hand, Navjot Singh Sidhu has accepted the invitation. It was being reported that Sidhu was quite positive about the invitation. Sidhu said that he sees ‘infinite possibilities’ and would also like Punjab CM Amarinder Singh to Shri Nankana Sahib (the place where Sikh Guru, Nanak Devji was born).

Meanwhile, in Pakistan, Imran Khan’s party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) won the national elections, for which the results were declared on July 25.
