New Delhi, Oct 31 (PTI) A joint delegation of CPI-ML, CPI(M) and AISA leaders met a senior Delhi Police official Wednesday in connection with the death of an eight-year-old madrassa student in a scuffle between two groups in south Delhi last week.

The leaders met Devesh Srivastava, Joint Commissioner of Police (Southern range), and submitted a letter addressed to Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik.

The delegation alleged that inaction by some officials on the complaints by the madrassa residents regarding harassment and intimidation allowed the atmosphere of hostility to grow.

"We have demanded that action must be taken against responsible police officials and an inquiry must start on the complaints by the madrassa residents," it said.

A CPI(M)-CPI-ML team had visited the madrassa on October 26.

"Through our conversation with the residents of the madrassa and the documents shown by the Imam, we have come to know that the incident of October 25 was preceded by several instances of harassment of the madrassa residents," the letter said.

"Despite several complaints by the madrassa residents, Delhi Police continued to ignore such complaints," it added.

"It is of grave concern that Delhi Police continued to ignore complaints of the madrassa residents when mob lynching and hate-mongering against people of the minority community has become a daily affair in the country," the letter said.

An eight-year-old student of a madrassa in Malviya Nagar here died after he sustained a head injury in a scuffle between two groups of minor boys on October 25.
