Background on the Group and Earlier Protests

CJP is a youth-led movement that began in May 2026 after remarks by Chief Justice Surya Kant comparing certain unemployed young people and activists to cockroaches. Founded by Abhijeet Dipke, it uses satire and focuses on issues including unemployment, exam irregularities, and electoral reforms. It is not a registered political party.

The latest detentions follow a larger security operation on October 10. That day, Dipke, Das and Ranka were detained by Delhi Police inside their aircraft after landing at Indira Gandhi International Airport from Mumbai. They had planned a demonstration at Jantar Mantar demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. Police had denied permission for the protest, citing short notice and law-and-order concerns. Hundreds of supporters and some opposition leaders were also detained across Delhi that day. The three leaders were released the next day after being produced before an executive magistrate. They furnished surety bonds of Rs 50,000 each and were directed to maintain peace for one year. CJP Claims Delhi Police Denied Abhijeet Dipke Chance to Speak to Parents; Cops Release Video.

Ongoing Efforts

After their release, CJP leaders had said they would approach police for a date to hold a peaceful protest at Jantar Mantar. Tuesday’s attempt appears to form part of continued efforts by the group to stage a demonstration at the site. Delhi Police have not issued a detailed public statement beyond confirming the detentions of Das and Ranka.
