Patna (Bihar) [India], August 23 (ANI): Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary on Sunday paid tribute to Pandit Rajkumar Shukla on his 151st birth anniversary at a state-level function organised in his honour at the Bihar Legislative Council's Annexe Hall.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister unveiled the souvenir 'Shukla Shaurya' and honoured Kalpana Patowary with the 'Pandit Rajkumar Shukla Kala Shikhar Samman' for her contribution to the fields of art and music.

Addressing the gathering, Chaudhary said the new generation would be made aware of Pandit Rajkumar Shukla's contributions and the historical significance of the Champaran Satyagraha.

He noted that it was through Pandit Rajkumar Shukla's tireless efforts that Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi arrived in Champaran, Bihar, and led the historic Satyagraha to liberate farmers from British oppression. The Champaran Satyagraha gave a new direction to the nation's freedom movement and played a pivotal role in strengthening the struggle against British rule.

The Chief Minister further said Bihar had received approximately 30 per cent less rainfall than normal this year. In the interest of farmers, the state government has decided to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply for agricultural activities from 6 am to 6 pm.

Chaudhary said the state government was working with full commitment to realise the visions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. He described the 'Sahyog Karyakram' as a symbol of good governance.

So far, 6.42 lakh applications have been received through the programme, with 96 per cent of them already resolved, he said. The objective of the government was to provide better services to the common people through good governance.

Employment has been provided to 16,000 people through job fairs organised over the last three days, according to the release.

Chaudhary noted that when Bihar and Jharkhand were a single state, Bihar's budget used to be approximately Rs 6,000 crore. He said Bihar's economy had strengthened significantly due to the financial management of former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Sushil Kumar Modi.

In 2024, Bihar's budget stood at Rs 3.47 lakh crore, whereas Jharkhand's budget was Rs 1.39 lakh crore, he said.

During the ceremony, the Chief Minister was welcomed by the Pandit Rajkumar Shukla Smriti Sansthan with a bouquet, an angavastra (traditional cloth) and garlands.

Bihar Legislative Council Chairman Awadhesh Narayan Singh, Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari, other dignitaries, family members of Pandit Rajkumar Shukla and associates of the Pandit Rajkumar Shukla Smriti Sansthan were also present. (ANI)
