New Delhi [India], September 22 (ANI): Congress leader Subhankar Sarkar was appointed as the new President of the West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee on Saturday with immediate effect.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge ordered the appointment on Saturday night.

Sarkar has been relieved of his current position as the secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC).

Notably, Sarkar is also the Congress state-in-charge of Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, and Mizoram.

"Hon'ble Congress President has appointed Shri Subhankar Sarkar as the President of the West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee with immediate effect," the official statement by the party read.

'He has been relieved from his current position as AICC Secretary. The party appreciates the contributions of the outgoing PCC President, Shri Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury," it added

He will be replacing the outgoing PCC President, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, who stepped down from the post after he lost to Trinamool candidate Yusuf Pathan in the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 from the Baharampur constituency.

The Congress party also appreciated the contribution of Chowdhury.

In another development, Kharge also appointed party leaders MK Bhardwaj and Bhanu Mahajan as acting working presidents of the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee.

"Congress President has appointed MK Bhardwaj and Bhanu Mahajan as Acting Working Presidents of the Jammu & Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee, with immediate effect," an official statement of the party said.(ANI)
