India News | Keralam: Onam Feast Invitation Leads Moozhiyar Police to Uncover Food Scarcity in Angamoozhy

Pathanamthitta (Keralam) [India], August 23 (ANI): Police officials visiting a remote tribal settlement in Angamoozhy near the Kochandi forest area to extend an Onam festival invitation discovered severe food scarcity among the residents.

17 members from four families currently live in a tribal settlement near the forest check post at Kochandi, within the limits of Moozhiyar Police Station, police said.

According to the police, Moozhiyar SHO Ravindran AR, SI Anilkumar, WCPO Chinchu Bose and CPO Vineeth had visited the settlement to invite the residents to the Onam feast being organised at the police station on Monday.

Moozhiyar SHO Ravindran AR highlighted the sequence of events during their interaction with the families, noting the children's plight and immediate steps taken by the department.

Police said, "While extending the invitation, the SHO asked the children what they had eaten in the morning. The children said that they had not eaten anything that day and revealed that they had been going without food on several days."

The police team immediately returned to the station and, with the support of the officers of Moozhiyar Police Station, arranged essential groceries, vegetables, fish, biscuits, and other bakery items for all four families. The team then returned to the settlement and handed over the provisions.

The residents of Kochandi tribal settlement were delighted to receive the provisions for celebrating Onam as well as the invitation to the police station's Onam feast, the police stated.

Following an emotional interaction during a festive outreach program at a remote forest settlement, the police noted core issues brought to light when young residents spoke about their daily academic hurdles

"The children then raised another concern. They said they wanted to attend school but were facing severe difficulties due to the lack of transportation facilities," SHO noted.

The Moozhiyar SHO further assured them that transportation arrangements would be ensured when schools reopen after the Onam holidays.

These humanitarian efforts concluded as the villagers bid farewell to the police team with happiness and assured them that they would attend the Onam feast at Moozhiyar Police Station. (ANI)
