Nearly six months after the death of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar in a plane crash, his wife and successor, Deputy CM Sunetra Pawar, unveiled a full-length statue of the late leader in Baramati on Thursday on his birth anniversary.
Baramati (Maharashtra) [India], July 23 (ANI): Nearly six months after the death of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar in a plane crash, his wife and successor, Deputy CM Sunetra Pawar, unveiled a full-length statue of the late leader in Baramati on Thursday on his birth anniversary.
Coinciding with the occasion, the Nataraja Kala Mandal organised an exhibition showcasing photographs from Ajit Pawar's life and career.
Sunetra Pawar, who took over as Deputy CM in January this year after her husband's sudden demise, paid tribute to him earlier in the day at his memorial site.
"Today, on the occasion of the revered late Ajitdada's birth anniversary, I offered a floral garland at their memorial site and paid humble tribute. Though Dada is no longer with us today, their thoughts, zeal for public service, and legacy of development will continue to inspire us forever. Walking on the path shown by them, my resolve to work for the welfare of the people has become even stronger. Humble salutations to the sacred memories of Ajitdada!" she said on X.

Ajit Pawar died on the morning of January 28 when the Learjet 45 aircraft (VT-SSK) carrying him crash-landed while attempting to land at Baramati airport in Pune district. The aircraft went down near the runway threshold, killing all five people on board. Among the deceased were Pawar, his personal security officer, a flight attendant, and two pilots. He was travelling from Mumbai to Baramati to campaign for the Zilla Panchayat elections.
Ajit Pawar, Maharashtra's longest-serving Deputy Chief Minister, was among the most prominent leaders in the state. He served in the position for six terms within various governments. He had worked as deputy chief minister in the cabinets of Prithviraj Chavan, Devendra Fadnavis, Uddhav Thackeray and Eknath Shinde. (ANI)
