India News | Odisha: Woman Accuses Cop of Exploitation on Marriage Pretext, Pistol Threat; Case Registered

A case has been registered against Sub-Inspector Prabhat Kumar Nayak, formerly posted at Town Police Station in Mayurbhanj, following a woman's complaint alleging that he established a physical relationship with her on the promise of marriage and later intimidated her by allegedly brandishing his service pistol, police said.
Mayurbhanj (Odisha) [India], August 23 (ANI): A case has been registered against Sub-Inspector Prabhat Kumar Nayak, formerly posted at the Town Police Station, following a written complaint by a woman who has alleged harassment and misuse of official position by the police officer, an official said on Saturday.
Speaking to ANI, Mayurbhanj ASP Deepak Kumar Gochhayat said the case was registered on the basis of the woman's complaint and that an investigation is currently underway.

According to the allegations contained in the complaint, Nayak allegedly established a physical relationship with the woman on the pretext of marriage and subsequently intimidated her.
The complainant has further alleged that the police officer misused his official position and threatened her by allegedly brandishing his service pistol.

"The allegations are that Sub-Inspector Prabhat Kumar Nayak engaged in a physical relationship with the complainant under the pretext of marriage and intimidated her. He misused his official position and threatened the woman by brandishing his service pistol," ASP Gochhayat said.
Police said that several other individuals have also been named in the complaint for allegedly abetting or facilitating the harassment of the woman.
The police have registered a case and initiated an investigation to verify the allegations and establish the circumstances surrounding the complaint. (ANI)
