New Delhi [India], July 16 (ANI): A Delhi Traffic Police Head Constable lost his life in a tragic hit-and-run incident while regulating traffic at the Singhu border on Wednesday evening. The driver of the speeding vehicle fled the scene immediately after the collision, sparking an urgent police investigation that led to the swift arrest of two suspects.

The deceased officer has been identified as Head Constable Amit, who was actively performing his duties when the tragedy struck.

The fatal incident occurred during the peak traffic hours of Wednesday evening. According to official statements from the Delhi Police, Head Constable Amit was managing the heavy flow of vehicles at the crucial border junction when he was suddenly struck.

"Yesterday at around 1800 hrs, Head Constable Amit was performing traffic duty at Singhu Border when he was hit by a speeding vehicle. He was immediately shifted to SRHC (Satyawadi Raja Harishchandra Hospital). However, he was declared brought dead on arrival. The offending vehicle has been identified," the Delhi Police stated.

Following the impact, the vehicle sped away from the border checkpoint, leaving the injured officer on the road. Despite immediate evacuation to the hospital, medical professionals confirmed that Amit had succumbed to his injuries before arrival.

Following the hit-and-run, the Alipur Police Station registered a First Information Report (FIR) and launched an immediate manhunt to track down the fleeing suspects. Within hours, authorities successfully traced the vehicle and apprehended those allegedly responsible.

The police have registered the case under Sections 281 (rash driving) and 106(1) (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The Delhi Police issued a formal update confirming the progress of the case:

"On FIR U/S 281, 106(1), BNS was registered at PS Alipur in connection with a hit-and-run incident. In this case, 2 accused, Kuldeep and Neeraj, have been apprehended. The vehicle involved in the incident has been taken into possession for investigation. Further investigation and legal formalities are ongoing. The matter is being pursued on priority to ensure completion of the investigation as per law."

The loss of Head Constable Amit has cast a sombre mood over the Delhi Police department. Beyond pursuing strict legal actions against the accused, senior officials emphasised that they are working closely to support the officer's grieving relatives.

"Legal action and further investigation are in progress. All necessary departmental formalities and assistance to the bereaved family are being coordinated. The matter is being pursued as a top priority to ensure the culprit is brought to justice at the earliest," the police added. (ANI)
