Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], October 4 (ANI): Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin announced an ex gratia of Rs two lakhs for the kin of the three deceased who died in Kanniyakumari due to electrocution on Tuesday night.

"I am deeply saddened to hear the sad news that Chitra (47), Athira (23) and daughter Selvam Ashwin (9) died unexpectedly yesterday due to electric shock at their home," Stalin was quoted as saying in a press release from the Chief Minister's Office, the draft of which was attached to a post on 'X'.

"I would like to offer my condolences to the family of Mr. Solraj and his family and I have decided to give two lakh rupees each from the Chief Minister's General Relief Fund to the families of the deceased," he added.

"Hon'ble Chief Minister @mkstalin has announced condolence and financial assistance to the families of those who died due to electric shock in Kanyakumari district," read a rough translation of the Chief Minister's Office post in Tamil on 'X'.

Three members of a family were electrocuted to death near Attoor in Kanyakumari district, police said.

Thiruvattar Police said they have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the October 3 incident in which a woman and her two children died.

"Last night three people were electrocuted to death near Attoor of Kanyakumari district. Last evening, a street light's electric wire fell on the adjacent building wall on which a person kept his hand. Noticing this, his mother and sister tried to save him. All three got electrocuted and died," said Thiruvattar Police. (ANI)
