Dehradun, Jul 11 (PTI) Twenty-five people, including an alleged Bangladeshi national, were detained on Friday for allegedly duping people in the guise of sadhus, a police official said on Friday.

According to police, 'Operation Kalanemi' was launched in Dehradun district on Thursday after various authorities received complaints that imposters without any religious knowledge had been cheating people, especially women and the elderly, by posing as Hindu saints.

Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Singh said that among the detainees, a Bangladeshi national has also been apprehended.

The accused, identified as Rakam, is a resident of Tangail district near Dhaka in Bangladesh. He was detained from ????Dehradun's Sahaspur area, Singh said.

The SSP said that it was found that Rakam reached Dehradun six to seven months ago and had been trying to cheat people by posing as a Hindu saint.

The police officer further stated that such impostors have become increasingly active, taking advantage of the ongoing Char Dham Yatra in the state and the Kanwar Yatra, which commenced on Friday.
