Ramgarh (Jharkhand), Apr 24 (PTI) A minor girl was allegedly raped by a 40-year-old man in Ramgarh district, police said today.

The incident happened under the jurisdiction of Kuju police station yesterday, the police said.

The victim's father lodged a complaint alleging that the accused raped his 5-year-old daughter when she was alone at home, a police officer said.

The victim's neighbours caught the accused after they heard her screams, thrashed him and handed him over to the police, he said.

The girl was sent to a government hospital in Ramgarh for medical examination, the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Ramgarh district, A Vijayalakshmi, said.

"We have lodged an FIR under the POCSO Act at Kuju police station on the basis of a written complaint by victim's father," the SP said.
