Nagapattinam(TN), May 11 (PTI) A Rs 39 lakh new building, housing the office of theState Transport Corporation at Porayar in the district, whereeight workers were killed after the roof collapsed on October 20 last year, will come up soon.

Speaking after laying the foundation stone for the building, state Handlooms Minister O S Manian said it would serve as retiring room for transport workers and also house a canteen for workers,

The minister said the building was being constructed using the Local Area Development Fund allotted by Poompuhar MLA Paunraj.

On October 20, 2017, the roof of the building at the Porayar TNSTC office, which served as a retiring room for transport workers, collapsed, killing eight workers on the spot.

Following the mishap, the building was completely demolished.

The minister also laid the foundation stone for a Rs 1.28-crore bridge across Veerachozhan near here, with aid from NABARD.
