Chandigarh, Apr 30 (PTI) Chief Minister Amarinder Singh today ordered the Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd. (PSPCL) and the Revenue Department to immediately assess the damage to the wheat crop due to fire incidents and disburse compensation to farmers.

In compliance with the direction, Revenue Department is extending compensation to the farmers who lost the wheat crop in fire incidents other than electrical short circuit/sparking.

The department has sanctioned compensations worth Rs 3.05 lakh for farmers of Mansa and Tarn Taran districts.

Vini Mahajan, financial commissioner (revenue), said the state is "fully alive" to the urgency of awarding compensation to the farmers.

Mahajan said a compensation of Rs 8,000 per acre is being provided to the farmers.

The rate of compensation is Rs 8,000 per acre when the loss exceeds 75 per cent, Rs 4,800 per acre when the loss exceeds 50 per cent but does not exceed 75 per cent, and Rs 3,200 per acre when the loss exceeds 25 per cent but does not exceed 50 per cent.
