Hyderabad, Aug 10 (PTI) Chief Justice of India, Justice Ranjan Gogoi said on Saturday that the rule of law has emerged as the "soul of democratic nations."
He also said that the rule of law need not necessarily be intertwined with government policy and that judicial review becomes its cornerstone.
The CJI distinguished rule of law from rule of man and asserted that the former "has emerged as the soul of modern democratic nations."
He was delivering the 33rd Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Memorial Lecture on "Rule of law in Modern Democracy" at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy here.
The Chief Justice explained the true meaning of the democratic system, which, he said, constitutes legal equanimity, public freedom and governance by Rule of Law, an official release, quoting the CJI, said.
He congratulated the IPS probationers for choosing to dedicate their lives to serve the motherland
The CJI recalled the contributions of Sardar Patel in making the civil services the "strong constitutional steel framework in binding Independent India", the release added.PTI
