Bengaluru, Aug 28 (PTI) The Karnataka government would consider relaxing existing rules to encourage more sports people to join the police department, Deputy chief minister G Parameshwara said today.
He was speaking at a function got up to felicitate Kabaddi player Usha Rani, part of the Indian women's team that won the silver medal at the ongoing Jakarta Asian Games.
The Kabaddi player is presently a police constable posted at the Dodda Ballapura police station.
"We assure Usha Rani that she would beelevated to 'B' grade post," the deputy chief minister said. A 'B' grade post is an officer rank in the police department, police said. Parameshwara presented a cheque for Rs 15 lakh issued by the Youth Services and Sports Department.
Lauding her efforts, Parameshwara said he wanted to see her winning a gold medal in future.
The state would also felicitate tennis player Rohan Bopanna and Fouaad Mirza, he said. Bopanna along with Divij Sharan won the gold in the men's doubles at the games while Mirza won the individual equestrian silver.
