In a heartfelt statement, Lamb expressed the difficulty of the situation. "It is incredibly difficult to have my career end through injury but, after taking medical advice, I know it is the right decision for my long-term health," he said.

He reflected on his decade in the professional game, adding, "From signing my first scholarship with Lancashire in 2015, to my first professional contract in 2016 and making my senior debut in May 2017, it has been a privilege to spend over a decade in the professional game. "I have been fortunate to experience some incredible moments that will stay with me forever, including winning the Second Division Championship twice with both clubs and playing in two Finals Days with Lancashire, as well as the more personal highlights of sharing dressing rooms with outstanding team-mates and building lifelong friendships."

Born on September 7, 1995, Daniel John Lamb, a right-handed batsman and right-arm medium-pace bowler, was a dynamic all-rounder known for his commitment on the field. He joined Sussex ahead of the 2024 season, having previously spent several successful years with Lancashire. Lamb made his List A debut on May 14, 2017, and his T20 debut on July 9, 2017. His first-class debut in June 2018 famously saw him become the first concussion substitute in English cricket.

Lamb scored his maiden first-class century with 125 runs in April 2021 during a County Championship match against Kent and achieved his first List A five-wicket haul in July 2021. He was instrumental in two Second Division Championship triumphs and featured in two Finals Days with Lancashire.
