Hero MotoCorp has officially announced plans to launch its inaugural line of electric motorcycles in 2027, marking a strategic expansion of its zero-emission portfolio beyond the existing Vida scooter range. The mass-market two-wheeler manufacturer is developing dedicated architectures to address diverse consumer demands, ranging from daily commuter options to high-performance models.

As per a report by Autocar India, the upcoming electric motorcycles will be underpinned by two distinct foundational frameworks codenamed UBEX and VXZ. Kausalya Nandakumar, Chief Business Officer of Hero MotoCorp's Emerging Mobility Business Unit, confirmed to investors that market introductions will begin next year.

Dedicated UBEX and VXZ Platforms

The new vehicle architectures are built specifically for motorcycle buyers rather than being adapted from legacy scooter frameworks. The UBEX platform is slated to underpin a street-naked motorcycle geared toward everyday versatility.

Meanwhile, the VXZ platform is being engineered in collaboration with United States-based Zero Motorcycles. This architecture focuses on high-performance capabilities tailored for adventure-oriented riders, with design patents already filed in the domestic market.

Production Scaling and Market Strategy

Hero MotoCorp is simultaneously scaling up its electric scooter infrastructure to support broader zero-emission adoption. The company targets an increase in monthly Vida scooter production capacity to 45,000 units during financial year 2027, up significantly from 15,000 units at the close of financial year 2026.

Company leadership notes that while engineering insights from the scooter division informed the new projects, the proprietary motorcycle platforms are fine-tuned to deliver optimal performance, gradeability, rideability, and range expected by traditional motorcycle enthusiasts.
