From 1 July, vehicle owners found operating without a valid HSRP will be subject to a penalty of INR 1,000 for each violation. Beyond the financial impact, non-compliance may lead to restrictions on essential Regional Transport Office (RTO) services. These include the inability to process ownership transfers, address changes, permit renewals, or the addition or removal of hypothecation.
The Transport Department has clarified that vehicle owners who have successfully booked an official installation appointment on or before 30 June will be granted a temporary exemption from enforcement. These individuals will be permitted to operate their vehicles until their scheduled fitting is completed, provided they carry proof of their appointment booking during any vehicle inspections.
How to apply for HSRP online
To comply with the regulation, vehicle owners should visit the official Maharashtra Transport Department portal. Applicants must select their respective RTO office from the provided list, which covers regions across the state, to proceed with the booking. The installation charges have been standardised at INR 450 for two-wheelers, INR 500 for three-wheelers, and INR 745 for light motor and commercial vehicles, excluding GST.
