Deloitte has announced plans to hire 50,000 professionals in India as part of a major expansion, even as global companies reevaluate workforce strategies amid the rise of artificial intelligence (AI). The hiring push will focus on strengthening AI and emerging technology capabilities rather than reducing headcount.
South Asia COO Nitin Kini told PTI that Deloitte views AI as a tool to enhance workforce efficiency, not to replace employees. “I do not think job losses are the way. It is about upskilling and making sure that we can solve higher-order value problems with emerging tech,” he said. The firm has already trained around 30,000 employees in AI and is gradually moving more of its workforce to internal platforms. Deloitte To Hire 50,000 Professionals: Expansion Focused on AI and Emerging Tech
Deloitte’s new hiring strategy reflects a broader commitment to emerging technologies. India, accounting for nearly one-third of the firm’s global workforce, continues to serve as a critical talent hub. The company plans structured training programs to help employees adapt to AI-driven processes and advance into higher-value roles.
Kini emphasized that the objective is to develop capabilities, not cut jobs. Deloitte is investing around 9% of its revenue in workforce development, training, and innovation, signaling a long-term commitment to skill enhancement. Upskilling Over Layoffs
Amid global concerns about AI-led job losses, Deloitte’s approach prioritizes upskilling. The firm believes that technology can boost efficiency and enable employees to tackle complex business challenges. Kini noted that AI adoption should go hand-in-hand with cybersecurity, ensuring both performance and safety.
Indian companies remain cautious in implementing AI, citing data security concerns and cost predictability as major considerations. Usage-based pricing models for AI tools and the need to protect sensitive data have slowed rapid adoption.
Broader Technology Initiatives
Deloitte’s roadmap includes the establishment of a Quantum Centre of Excellence in India, aiming to strengthen the country’s capabilities in cutting-edge technologies. These initiatives align with the firm’s strategy to integrate AI, cybersecurity, and innovation into its long-term business model.
By focusing on training, technology adoption, and workforce expansion, Deloitte aims to position India as a central hub for AI-driven growth while preparing employees for the future of work.
