Why Gold Prices Are Moving
International gold prices have come under pressure after stronger-than-expected US employment data increased expectations that the Federal Reserve could keep monetary policy tighter.
Reuters reported that the probability of a US rate hike at the September 16 meeting rose to 60% from 50% following the jobs data. Higher interest rates and bond yields can reduce the appeal of gold because the precious metal does not generate interest income. At the same time, geopolitical tensions and elevated oil prices remain factors that could support demand for gold as a traditional safe-haven asset.
24K Vs 22K Gold: What Buyers Should Know
24K gold is about 99.9% pure and is commonly used for investment products such as bars and coins.
22K gold has a purity of about 91.6% and is commonly used for jewellery because the additional metals make it more durable and suitable for making ornaments. Goodreturns lists both purity categories separately in its city-wise rates.
Gold Rates Do Not Include All Buying Costs
The quoted rates are indicative market rates and should not be treated as the final amount payable at a jewellery shop.
Goodreturns notes that its rates do not include GST, TCS and other levies. Jewellery buyers may also have to pay making charges, wastage charges and other costs depending on the product and jeweller. The final price can therefore differ from the headline gold rate even when the same purity and weight are purchased.
