Sameer Anjaan Criticises ‘Dhurandhar’
During an appearance on trade analyst Komal Nahta’s YouTube podcast Game Changers, Sameer accused modern action films like Dhurandhar of degrading the medium by relegating songs to background score filler. "Films like Dhurandhar have made the situation even worse. Satyanash kar diya (They have ruined it)," Sameer stated. "

Sameer explained that while he acknowledges the advantages of reintroducing iconic melodies to younger generations citing the successful remake of his track "Dilbar" the execution frequently falters. He condemned the industry habit of bypassing original writers to add crude lyrics.
"Morally, these people cannot touch this creative work without the permission of the original writers. Yet, they do it. This needs to stop," he added, cautioning that relying on short-term trends risks exhausting the industry's rich musical legacy.
Sameer's Critique of Industry Trends
The lyricist expanded his critique to the broader structural changes in the Indian film industry, pointing out that corporate intervention and multi-composer setups have diminished the depth of Hindi film music. He noted that modern productions often recruit dozens of music directors and lyricists for a single project, resulting in fragmented and context-less compositions.
Sameer also cited this widespread creative monotony as a driving factor behind major contemporary vocalists, such as Arijit Singh, stepping back from full-time playback singing due to a lack of variety. Furthermore, he expressed disappointment with prominent production houses like Yash Raj Films and Dharma Productions for gradually moving away from their traditional emphasis on melody.
